Capogiro? Ever heard of them? Well, they make some of the best gelato I have ever tasted. Where are they? Not so close if you live in the NY/Metro area.. But that's ok, they have a robust eSite that has (almost) everything you need.
So, what is Capogiro? They are a several year old artisan gelato company in Philadelphia, Pa. What makes them great? The ingredients are all locally sourced within 50 miles of their in store gelato making facilities. Why is this good? That's easy, fresher ingredients make for fresher flavors. They use all organically grown and raised produce, milk and herbs/spices in their products.
It is not inexpensive though. Running about ten dollars per pint, this is not Blue Bunny (about 2 dollars a pint) Recent flavors include:
Rosemary Honey Goatsmilk Honey Cumin, Burnt Sugar Turkish Coffee Lemon Opal Basil Persimmon Sorbeto, Lancaster Mint Stracciatella - Local mint, sometimes peppermint, spearmint, meadow, swiss or chocolate mint fleck with bittersweet chocolate. Lime Cilantro - Hand squeezed Persian limes with Lancaster cilantro. Excellent! Saigon Cinnamon - It took a lot of different types of cinnamon until we found this one. Hot, sweet and just perfect. Mexican Chocolate - Our chocolate gelato with hints of bitter almond, ancho chili and cinnamon. Cool, then HOT! Zenzero con Sesamo - Ginger gelato swirled with chopped sesame brittle. All flavors were kindly pasted from their webpage
