Who am I and why am I writing here?

Welcome to FoodieLink!

I am a founding member of the FoodieLink team with primary responsibility for managing the development of the website, mobile applications, and other technology-related products.

When I first told friends and family of my joining the FoodieLink team, the overwhelming response was “oh, that’s great! You love to cook and grill, so this is perfect for you!” Then, as I described more specifically about FoodieLink’s [mission] (http://beta.foodielink.com/about/why/), the words of enthusiasm quickly changed to words of confusion. “Healthy? But you love red meat and smoking!”

My smoker

(just to be clear especially to any teenagers reading this, we are talking about food [smoking] (http://www.thesmokering.com/) not the [bad kind] (http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_2x_Cigarette_Smoking.asp)). Causing even more confusion was the word sustainable. “What does that even mean?” And in all honesty, I initially had a hard time answering the question. But after even doing just a little research on the subject-matter, my response became very clear:

We all need to learn more about how to eat more healthy food and be conscious of the health of our planet.

There, I said it. Call me a tree-hugger.

I view myself as exactly the type of person who will benefit the most from FoodieLink: Someone with a love for food, as well as someone who has probably not done much to show concern for the health of our planet. As mentioned, I am a red meat and grilling/BBQ fanatic. I’m not overly concerned with veggies (although I was a veggie enthusiast as a teen). I drive an SUV, live in more square-footage than necessary (higher heating bills), and worst of all, have not seen [An Inconvenient Truth] (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0497116).

On the flip side, I do concern myself with health. Going all the way back to high school [high school] (http://www.lawrenceville.org), I ran on the track and field team, and in early adulthood, I was heavily into mountain biking, even having raced a handful of [NORBA] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Off-Road_Bicycle_Association) sport-class races locally in the northeast. Currently, I consider myself just a little more than a weekend warrior as a road cyclist, with the goal of staying in good physical condition.

So what will I be blogging about? Chances are that I will be writing about my learning process of finding and eating better, healthier food, and how I incorporate this into my everyday living. Yes, this will include grilling and BBQ. It will also include some of my cycling training experiences. Perhaps some talk about involving my kids’ eating habits and how I want to help them eat healthy. And hopefully, over time, my writing will inspire others like me to take control of their eating and food habits for the good of their health and their planet.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
