Shop at the Farmer's Market

I love summer and getting my food fresh right from the garden at my local farmer’s markets. The food is so delicious because it is in season and freshly picked, it’s local and hasn’t had to travel long distances in refrigeration and the food’s carbon footprint is greatly reduced. It’s better for you, better for the planet. Not only is it fresher and better tasting than supermarket produce, but it is also higher in nutrients because it is so fresh.

Remember your meal is only as good as the ingredients you put in it. Why make a salad with old wilted vegetables from a store when you can get vine ripe tomatoes and cukes at a farmer’s stand, picked that morning? Trust me-you will taste the difference! Add a little sea salt to make your tomatoes “sweat” which brings out the natural juices and flavor. No need for doctoring up your meals w/heavy sauces or dressings either-fresh veggies and fruit taste best served up “clean.” You will fall in love with the real taste of tomatoes (instead of those cardboard-like versions in the supermarket), w/some fresh basil; corn on the cob (very sweet w/o having to add butter or salt); blueberries, plump and delectable, thrown in your salad for a different twist. Add fresh cilantro to beans or greens or make a pesto sauce w/cilantro or basil. Fresh herbs are soothing to the digestive system so add them to your food as natural flavor enhancers and give your belly a break at the same time.
