Waiting For The Acceptance Letter

Last year, we moved to Watchung, NJ. A pretty, hilly, picturesque Central NJ town filled with deer, large lots and more than a few McMansions. We decided on this location because we felt like it was a little bit o' country within an hour of Manhattan. A refuge, if you will, from the hectic pace of every other aspect of our lives. Also, we would have enough land to plant a garden and grow our own vegetables. The thing is, Miss City Mouse didn't realize how much work is actually involved and how many deer use our property like a local social club. Bummer. I guess I'll have to hightail it back to Whole Foods to get my organic fix.

Then, one day last spring we were going for a leisurely Sunday drive, exploring our new surroundings when we came upon a farm. A Big Farm. And there were dozens of sub lots and people digging and hauling bags of stuff. Hmmm...."Honey, pull over."

Turns out, in Warren, NJ there is something called Wagner Farm Arboretum Gardens And Learning Center. For $50, you can rent a 10'x20' plot and grow your own organic produce. There is also a Children's Garden and a Giving Garden. It's really pretty cool. I contacted them to apply for a lot, but I don't know if I'll get accepted. Apparently, these plots are pretty coveted. But, if I do, I'll have an organic garden without all the other hassles that go along with doing it at home. Plus, I think it's a great experience for children. Growing up in the NY, I didn't get a whole lot of that. I am excited about my children having that option. I'll keep you posted on my status...check it out for yourself: The Wagner Farm Arboretum

Seriously, I feel like I'm waiting for college acceptance letters.
